Ralph Lauren jacket (similar here, lots of good fringe options here), Sandro dress, Acne heels (old), Mansur Gavriel clutch, Stila beso lips

A little uptown/downtown vibe last night to send off my dear Krystal Bick as she moves on to a new adventure in a new city. As I mentioned in this post, this yellow number will be my go to for special occasions so it was the obvious choice for her late night going away dinner at one of the city's sexiest restaurants, Foreign Cinema.

TGIF!

Sometimes I feel like I have nothing to wear and I don't know how that's physically possible. Being the logical creature I am,  I've been paying very careful attention to what I buy to understand how this phenomenon occurs so I can stop it. My first realization is...

I don't buy clothes for my everyday life.

I'm like a child drawn to the shiniest object. Wine country weekend? I have more dresses than there are grape varietals.  Cocktail party? Pop, fizz, clink, I am ready to go. Casual lunch around the neighborhood? Guaranteed I stare blankly at my closet. Friday night dinner with girlfriends? Yeah, not sure what to do here either. I fill life with as many wine tastings and cocktail parties as possible (of course), but I want to feel equally fabulous in my casual moments....yet, I hadn't been buying clothes for those moments. So now when I go shopping, if I have visions of wine country I redirect my brain to visions of errands and it's helped me make smarter buying decisions. Ultimately, I want to buy less and wear what I have more.

I took these shots on a very typical San Francisco Saturday on my way to grab a green juice and a jacket from my tailor. When I'm off duty, it turns out I prefer menswear button downs and comfortable pants to be worn with flats over sun dresses. Adding a beautiful silk scarf is always a good idea. I feel casual, but still "me" and that's the goal.

Levi's made & crafted jeans, Isabel Marant blouse (similar here, love this one too), Paula Mendoza choker, Gucci disco bag, vintage Cole Haan mules (similar idea here)

Happy Friday, we made it! This outfit is pretty much what I live in during the day on a typical San Francisco weekend.  Jeans, a menswear button down, walkable heels, and my favorite accessories of the moment never fail me.

I'm sure you've read the apocalypse is here: skinny jeans are out. I don't care about that and I still wear mine, but I'm happy to see many new silhouettes popping up. Spring feels like the perfect time to make a fresh change. I had mostly been wearing my J Brand skinny, stretchy, dark wash, but now I've been favoring these Levi's straight leg, structured, medium wash. They're Levi's Made & Crafted, which is a premium line with extra attention to the creation process and materials. They're super flattering and I cuffed them rather than hemmed #petitegirlhack.

Are you investing in any new jean silhouettes for spring or are you holding onto your skinny jeans for dear life?

When I read the Into The Gloss article on Kim Karashian's hair routine, I was greatly intrigued.....

"For my hair, I don’t wash it every day. We start out with a blowout on day one, then we go into a messier vibe the next day, and then we flat iron it and do a really sleek look on day three since that requires a little oil in the hair. Day four could be a slicked-back ponytail, and on the fifth day is when you wash it."

Say what you want about her, girlfriend always looks put together so it's worth a read. I've always heard it wasn't good for your hair to wash it everyday, but my stick straight, fine hair tends to get lifeless if I don't. Matching a hair style to where you're at in your washing cycle sounded like a strategy that might actually work for me though. I was very curious if I'd see a difference in my hair health. Here's what happened....

Day 1:  I applied leave in conditioner and heat protectant and rough dried my hair. Then I curled  with a 1/4 inch clipless curling iron in an effort to create Kate Hudson-esque curls. I deem this moderately successful, my hair is feeling clean, life is good.

Day 2: I can still get behind day 2 because it's the messy day and I'm great at not brushing my hair. Sometimes I like to think I can pull off that cool, undone Sienna Miller look (that's how it goes in my mind at least). I added some Bumble & Bumble sea salt spray . Still feeling good.

Day 3: is suppose to be the sleek look. My hair felt oily to me, but I powered through. I also took this picture at the airport after a 24 hour trip to Seattle where I didn't bring any dry shampoo so that would have helped (I like Garnier's dry shampoo). Hair shininess is one of my main goals here and I notice it definitely looks much shinier than normal.

Day 4: is the slicked back pony. The oil doesn't bother me as much as day 3 as your hair must be this oily for the look, which made it feel intentional, which helped me mentally deal with oily hair.

Final Verdict:  I really liked this approach and noticed a tangible difference in my hair!  It felt softer and shinier than before, which I wasn't even expecting after my first try (thought I would do this for weeks before writing a post). I also hate doing my hair so having this plan helped make it seem like minimal effort. I'll definitely continue adapting to this new way of life and will share another update soon.

So what do you guys think, do you already wash your hair less and this is old news or are you excited to try this?

Sandro romea dress (purchased in store @ Bloomingdale's SF), Gladys Tamez hat (purchased at Alicia's store Syllabus), Mansur Gavriel large bucket bag, Sergio Rossi heels (similar here and more affordable here)

So happy it's officially spring (and that it feels it in San Francisco)! It's that time of year when I invest in one dress I really love so I can wear it to all the special occasions warm weather brings....my "hero dress" for the season. You can see last year's hero dress here (worn to wine country, weddings, polo etc).  This was the first spring dress I tried on and it was game over. I love the striking yellow color and well placed cut outs- it feels contemporary, but still elegant. French brands are so great at striking that balance.

This is how I styled my dress for its debut in LA last weekend (pictures here on my Instagram). It was perfect for a beautiful brunch in Malibu overlooking the water at Geoffrey's ( an old favorite, grew up going to brunch there) and then to Malibu Wine (head to Napa if you want wine lol). I'll share new ways I style the dress throughout the season in upcoming posts.

Hope you have a great Monday! I'm posting Wed. & Fri too, so see you later :)

You may remember this post about my special Sonia by Sonia Rykiel outfit I stumbled upon while wandering the streets of Paris last year and how exciting it was for me since I have an outfit by Sonia Rykiel that my mama bought for herself in Paris almost 20 years before I bought mine.

Well, I'm happy to share (part of) my mother's Sonia Rykiel outfit- this gorgeous lilac coat. I had it tailored as it was a few sizes too big so I can wear it for the first time after holding onto it for 10 years!  It has a matching dress, but I favor wearing them as separates for now (my mom almost always bought full looks: matching pants/blouse/coat/dress).

I really love the idea of a long, glamorous spring coat so I've been wearing it quite a bit at the office,  on weekends, and in airplanes. I read this Who What Wear article that claims long coats are a great look on petite girls so hey, I'll take it.

If you're interested in a spring coat check these out...
